engage youth in events and opportunities which promote youth development. Whether mentoring in a one-on-one situation, (e. g. teaching violin to children), or coaching a group of children in musical improvisation, my focus is on sparking their imagination and drawing them into the wonder of exploring new ideas, gaining more knowledge, and developing their skills.

I teach from the perspective of a 'growth-mindset.' I encourage my learners to see the mind as a muscle that gets bigger and stronger with use. For myself, I love a challenge which is what drew me into research in community development through music education of youth. I delight in the success of my learners. I aim for nurturing their development of competence, confidence, character, connection, caring and creativity. Of these, I value most creativity, as it encourages growth in all the other "C's."
